San Francisco is a fascinating city with lots of things to see and activities to indulge in. If you are a first time visitor recently arrived from flights to San Francisco, you should be happy to know that the city is only around 6 miles square, which means that sites are not too far away from one another. That said, here are a few guidelines to help you get along if you’re looking to visit this magnificent city any time soon. San Francisco Skyline Places to Visit and Things to Do One of the first places you should visit while in San Francisco is Alcatraz Island. Also known as ‘the Rock’, it was originally a federal penitentiary between 1934 and 1963, hosting some of the country’s most notorious criminals, and while there, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as check out the cell-block and gardens once maintained by hardworking prisoners. As we mentioned in a previous post, we drove 3,000 miles in one weekend just to visit the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon. It was absolutely beautiful and we had so much fun kissing, dancing, and frolicking around the tulips. {Don’t worry, we were super careful not to step on any of the blooms!} If there’s a tulip festival near you, even 3,000 miles away, we highly encourage to visit! One day we will visit the tulip field in the Netherlands, but until then, we have this beautiful and colorful memory. We hope these photos will inspire you to visit a tulip field too! If you don’t know which places to visit in Washington State, your answer might come in the form of Instagram.  Now, the atlas serves little purpose for wandering.  Tour books and maps? That’s pre-Google. Today, mobile apps  and social media are the root of our travel inspiration and planning.
